True Story
A large distribution client of ours had their SAN (huge, expensive storage server) fail at 3pm on a Tuesday. We determined the issue was a bad hard drive. It happens, drives fail all the time. It was still under warranty, so it didn’t seem like a big deal. However, the manufacturer provided 4 hour emergency support, meaning they’d be onsite at 10am Wednesday. This was unacceptable for our client. We worked through the night and restored the server from back-up. Had they waited for the manufacturer, they might have been down until the weekend, but we were able to get them back up in just 11 hours. Even though over half of the outage was after business hours, they still missed some deliveries and still had upset customers to deal with.
